CORRECT SIGNAGE FOR FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Did you know that 95% of all fires are found to be extinguishable if the correct extinguisher is used promptly?

The recommendation is to have a fire extinguisher placed every 10-15mtr radius within your work space.  It is very important to ensure that you have the correct type of extinguisher accessible in case of emergency.  If the situation or environment is complex, you may want to consider placing more extinguishers around.  You can’t overdo safety!

For extinguisher mounting, the need to be no higher than 1200mm to the top of the handle, and no lower than 100mm to the ground.  Signage needs to be clearly visible from 20 metres away, and from any direction of approach.  This distance will dictate the size that the sign needs to be.  The greater the viewing distance, the larger the sign.  Any sign needs to be mounted no less than 2 metres from the floor level to the bottom of the sign.  You can have one sign for multiple extinguishers if they are located together, but we recommend that you have signage showing what each extinguisher type is.  In an emergency, you need to be able to think very quickly!

All of our extinguisher signage complies to the Australian Standard as stated in AS1319.
